Ecological Instincts is leading a watershed survey for Wilson Lake, Varnum Pond and Pease Pond, located in the Town of Wilton, Maine. The project includes working with a steering committee, grant writing, developing and distributing public outreach materials, coordinating and training volunteers to assist with the watershed survey, and developing survey maps and a written report of survey results and recommendations to help prevent polluted runoff from entering these waterbodies.
Varnum Pond is the drinking water supply for the Town of Wilton, and Wilson Lake was recently listed on the Maine DEP’s nonpoint source priority watersheds list due to declining water clarity over the past decade. A previous survey was conducted more than 20 years ago. Project partners include FOWL, the Town of Wilton and Temple, UMF, and Maine DEP. (Photos; Friends of Wilson Lake)
