New Gloucester, Maine – Water quality monitoring at Sabbathday Lake adds to the long-term dataset and allows for analysis of both long and short-term water quality trends.

Ecological Instincts staff have been providing water quality monitoring services for the Sabbathday Lake Association (SDLA) since 2008, including monthly water clarity measurements, dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles, and collection of epilimnetic core samples for analysis of key water chemistry parameters used to track lake health. Ecological Instincts provides annual monitoring services and prepares an annual monitoring report for SDLA. Sabbathday Lake has been monitored consistently since 1990, and its water quality is above average compared to other Maine lakes. However, the lake does experience low dissolved oxygen levels in deep waters. Providing a continuous dataset to track the water quality in Sabbathday Lake is essential to ensuring that the lake stays clear and clean for future generations.
